Kingdom Building
Take a lesson from the
ants, you lazy fellow. Learn from their ways and be wise. For though they have
no king to make them work, yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for
the winter. Proverbs 6:6-8 TLB
Lady Wisdom asks, “Are
you tired of doing right, and will you miss your harvest?”
I love what Galatians
6:9 TLB states, “And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for, after a
while, we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give
up.” We can see this with the ant. It has a determination to labor for the good
of the ant community. The ant realizes that if he does his work well now that
later he will survive the winter. The goal is to work for the common good
of the ant nation.
There is something about doing our very best at tasks that we are assigned. Also, accomplishing the goals we have laid out for ourselves. When we compete with ourselves and work on self-improvement, then are we able to move closer to what God intended
for us to be and to do. We cannot ignore God and get away with it because God
will fulfill His creative plan for this world. The bible says that the earth is
the Lord’s… and they that dwell within it. We must move in step to His plans
and His program. We will reap just the kind of crop we sow. Living to please
our own desires and not considering the greater good of the community will
lead to a harvest of spiritual decay ending in death. We want our lives to be planted
with the wise things of the Spirit so that we will reap eternal life.
This idea of working
together for a just cause is what will drive change in our society. We cannot get
tired of wanting to build the kingdom of God in our communities. After a while,
we will see the fruits of our labor. We must not get discouraged and quit.
Being kind to everyone and helping each person to reach their potential will
only lift the whole community. Everyone benefits because each person will be
focused on walking the right path to success.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
To build a thriving community, we need your
guidance and help in making wise and sound decisions that will benefit
everyone. Help us to look to you as our source of knowledge, understanding, and
wisdom. We want to discern the times well, knowing that we are working now in
our summer so that when winter comes, we are prepared. Amen
