Goodness: Blessing of Plenty
Generosity

It is possible to give away and become richer! It is also possible to hold on to tightly and lose everything. Yes, the liberal man shall be rich! By watering others, he waters himself. Proverbs 11:24-25 TLB

Lady Wisdom asks, “What are you afraid of losing that you cannot give freely? In the garden, water is an essential part of the process of growing plants. If the plants do not receive water, then they are going to die. So in the natural so in the spiritual, when we water others with our time, talent, and treasure, then individuals will live and flourish. In the process of watering others, Proverbs tells us that we water ourselves. The garden of our soul gets watered too! Therefore, we cannot be stingy with the water for the plants or the pool of our resources – time, talent, and treasure. Liberality leads to prosperity!

How many people have a rainy day fund? Society tells us that we need to hold on to what we have and save for a rainy day. We tend to want to put away for something that may come up unexpectedly. However, this thought can deter us from giving to others. We could start to develop the ‘what about me attitude.’ Hoarding things and not sharing because of fear of not having enough, begins to set in.

I am not saying that we should not be prepared for the winter. Proverbs tells us to be like the ant. “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy fellow. Learn from their ways and be wise. For though they have no king to make them work, yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter, Proverbs 6:6-8 TLB.” We need to prepare for the winter season of our lives. Putting away for that time is wise. Having a savings plan or retirement plan will provide for emergencies and for the time when we are unable to work. The resources will be there to cover living expenses.

What I am saying that it is a blessing to be able to give away when we see someone in need – not to hold back the resources, especially if we have it to give. When we hold on too tightly, then there is the possibility of losing it all to other things. Something will come up to take those same resources away.
The idea of giving away will make you more prosperous. This concept is demonstrated by God, our Heavenly Father. He gave away His only begotten Son Jesus and He became more abundant with many sons and daughters through Christ. He gained a family. You too can gain an abundance of goodness when you give away liberally and cheerfully to others. The blessings will find you so that you can have more than enough with plenty to give away. Amen
