Living and Doing Things That Matter

It is imperative that we do things that matter.  We should do things according to what God has for us to do. When we just doing our own thing, we are susceptible to all types of deception. There’s a chance that we're not going to be successful, but when we do what God says for us to do, we will win. Doing it his way, makes God obligated to help us to be successful.  What we have to do is not be afraid and walk in faith.

This quote by Mary Engelbreit that means a lot to me and really has helped me is, “Bloom where you're planted.”  I found it to be a significant statement that one needs to not just settle for things but to bloom.  Actually, letting the glory of God come out from within them allows the glory of God to be seen in our lives. Using this opportunity to advance and move forward, it's a matter of figuring out what really matters.

I happened to be reading in my Bible app this devotional that read, "Doing Things That Matter".  I'm going to just quote it, “A life that matters must be full of actually doing all sorts of things that matter. Doing things that matter doesn't mean you have to create your own global-spanning movement. No. Instead, it's contributing to the largest, global spanning movement in the history of the world!"

By finding ways to live and be the person that God has created you to be, I think that this is so important.  What is our purpose? What is the meaning behind our lives, and why were we brought on the planet? Many are needing to find out what it is and to do it.  It's not about making it too complicated but just living daily. Fulfilling that purpose, whatever it is by trying to discover and fulfill the purpose of God for us. It is a discovery.  Lady Wisdom tells us, "Be teachable". When we are teachable, then we're able to learn new things and we're able to gain new knowledge. She says with all of your knowledge get understanding. Understanding is what we need. She says wisdom is the principal thing… it's the first thing.

I like what Tim Manning who wrote the devotional Doing Things That Matter says if you want to have a life of just watching TV or just eating all kinds of stuff or just watching basketball games and football games, living life through other people, then you can go ahead and do that. However, it's not going to be your best life.  If you want to go out and just chase money and hustling all the time not enjoying life by finding out the meaning for it, then your life is not going to be secure a grounded in purpose.  We don’t want to cling to the things that are temporal, but we want to cling to eternal things.  God is eternal. Doing things that please God is eternal. The Bible says that we do not want to gather treasures here on Earth. What we want to do is stack up treasures in heaven. We will be storing up treasure that lasts.

If you become a person who has a life full of doing things that matter, then that will be your story. You only have one life to live. No one is responsible for it but you. God calls us out of the mundane and the mediocre, and he beckons us to experience life to the full. So we have a choice what kind of Life do we want to live? How do we want our lives to be represented? What do we want to be known for? Doing things that matter will help us to get there.  Tim Manning states, “If you pursue the journey to dream,  live differently, love recklessly and lead courageously, all for the glory of God, you will discover a life that is well lived.” I think that that is a beautiful statement. I want to do that. I believe that it's a brilliant and wise word that he's given us that we can apply to our everyday lives.

Changing our thinking through biblical meditation will help us to get where we need to go.  We can do things that matter because we hear what God has to say to us. We have to change our thinking by pondering, personalizing, practicing, praising and praying. Prayer will help you to figure out precisely what it is that God has intended for you to do and be. Then you can build your faith, have an abundance mindset instead of a slack/scarcity mindset. Through daily devotion and keeping our minds set on God’s ways, we can intentionally pursue our God-designed destiny.
