Proverbs 31 Woman
Proverbs 31:10-31 describes what a woman who follows the ways of wisdom looks like. Her noble characteristics are demonstrated in her work ethic and her daily living. She starts off her day early in the morning reverencing and communing with God in prayer. Time is valuable to her. Her life is centered on the people who mean the most to her, her family but she also considers the needs of the community and her nation.
Her husband and
the other men look to her for resources of knowledge, business and good judgment.
She is honored and appreciated for her wisdom and insight into the affairs of
the poor and less fortunate. Her children bless her. This acknowledgement from
her family implies that she is honest and trustworthy. Her children know that
she is being authentic – her true self.
Nora Conrad in her
blog, Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman
states, “There are verses that mention how to be a good mother and wife, but
preparing your heart for those things can help bring you closer to God.” As
women of wisdom, we must practice every day the virtues of the Proverbs 31
woman. According to Melissa Ringstaff in her blog, A Virtuous Woman; The 10
Virtues, she lists them as Faith, Marriage, Mothering, Health, Service,
Finances, Industry, Homemaking, Time, and Beauty. She writes, “Being a Proverbs
31 woman is not about being perfect.’ It’s about living life with purpose.”
I think that
living with purpose is what Lady Wisdom is all about. She wants us to be
productive and creative. She saw how the Lord created the world. This process
of creating brought great joy and fulfillment to her and to other heavenly
beings. One of the aspects of being created in the image of God is our ability to
envision something and bring it into existence for good or bad. Lady Wisdom
wants to give us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of how to produce good
things for the glory of God. I think that we need to take her up on her offer!
Beginning the Wisdom Process
"My instruction is far more valuable than
silver or gold. For the value of wisdom is far above rubies; nothing can be
compared with it." (Proverbs 8:10, 11, TLB)
